Wildlife all around, we were even awakened one night by monkeys on our roof! Gorgeous, private location on a mostly private beach. Cool surf towns with good shops and eateries close by. The staff were fantastic and thoughtful. Cell reception is intermittent, but WiFi was great for being so remote and staff were willing to help with any calls or arrangements that were needed. Would definitely return. Highly recommend flying into Limon - we drove from San Jose and while pretty, it’s a long and frustrating drive that can take anywhere from 4-7 hours depending on traffic and closures. Food and beverage on property was fantastic. Would have loved a pool as an alternative to the beach on some days as waves can be rough. Parking should be on an angle for easier access as it’s VERY tight. Those were the only little things I thought would improve this otherwise perfect spot. Even at this reasonable price, this spot and its staff totally beat the high end branded resort “competition” on the other side of the country.

The hotel breakfast buffet and pools are good. However the property is small and sometimes you can smell cows when you are in the jacuzzi. Hot springs are small. Food and cocktails are very expensive. We stay 3 nights for the cost of $1,600 which is very expensive for a small property. You can’t walk to the forest as it is small. No birds or animal sightings at the hotel.

If you want amazing hospitality and relaxing vibes this the place. The staff made it all perfect. We stayed for 4 nights and left completely relaxed. Don’t forget to visit the sister property they have a very nice pool. The only observation is the dining menu is always the same and very seafood forward. However they are great restaurants nearby.

We had great time! The resort was one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed, with a beach view right outside our room. The staff was incredibly friendly and overly helpful. My friend got sick one of the days and they went above and beyond to help her feel better, constantly offering things to help and checking up on her every hour or so. Everyone was helpful and over-the-top accommodating. They would run and find us to show us any wildlife they happen to spot in the area. We had Christian serving us on the beach and he was phenomenal. Gave us so many recommendations for the area, and followed up by having the front desk send us the info via text. He also delivered some things directly to our room, which he didn't have to do.

We had the best time here. The property is beautiful and modern and the plunge pool at our bungalow was great. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful and made sure our trip was great. You can walk to the town of puerto Viejo within minutes and be Oceanside in no time.

Clean and comfortable. Private pool was cleaned daily and the staff were super friendly! I was shy not knowing any Spanish but the staff were very warm and kind. I had to change dates last minute and the hotel was accomodating. Love the rooms, delicious food — highly recommend!

The gardens are beautiful and teeming with wildlife Room facilities all very nice Breakfast was delicious and staff very friendly Plunge pool and our own sunbeds by the bungalow Spa staff were excellent and the massage was wonderful!

The hotel was lovely! The decor in the rooms was lovely, and the facilities were exceptional. The private pool with my bungalow was the perfect size, and the chairs and shower for a great setup.

This is a beautiful hotel. Beautiful wood, restaurant and bar and the lush jungle landscape is just beautiful. Loved the pool also. The standout about this place though is the staff for sure. Young crew, very good manners and helpful. Be sure to tip them, they deserve it. We’ll return one day! We stayed in the Brisas cabin and it was awesome. Note that most rooms do not have air conditioning so if you require air conditioning make sure you book a room with them that has it. Love Banana Azul! The shuttle service and your booking counter just outside their entrance was so helpful. We use Caribe Shuttle to get there from San Jose.

This laid back beach resort is ideal for 'get away from it all' holiday makers. The fabulous black sand beach is just at the end of the well maintained gardens. and it stretches for miles. The room we stayed in was slightly small. (as was the pool) - but Air con worked great and we needed it. Shower was powerful. I'd go for the larger suite next time. Try the tenderloin steak - one of the best I've had. Cocktails to die for. - and service was excellent.

Amazing stay. I traveled with 2 other young women (ages 21,21,20) and we felt incredibly safe the entire time. We ended up staying in the banana house, which is actually a seperate villa across a little road from the main part of the hotel, however it was gated, and this gate could be locked. The apartment itself was also gorgeous. The property is one of the few at this price range with a connecting beach, being on playa negra. It is around a 5 minute ride (15 minute walk) from puerto viejo city center. There is a market at the hotel that sells groceries and cheaper lunch meals. Furthermore down the street there is a soda (which is a “hometown” restaurant in costa rica) which offers cheaper food as puerto viejo and costa rica is a bit expensive. Included breakfast is AMAZING. You have multiple options plus included coffee and a daily juice. We will be back!! Not to mention the staff is amazing, particularly Diana was very helpful. This place is truly a gem and I would recommend it 10x over.

Our stay here was amazing, the staff was always helpful and friendly. We booked a couple or tours and the tour company personnel had a desk right across from the front desk which made everything very easy. If we needed a taxi or had any questions on the tours it was easy to get information. Housekeeping was at our room every day at the same time which was perfect because it was the time we would be out eating or at the beach. One of the best things about this hotel is that you are a couple of feet away from the beach, if you get a chance they offer messages and OMG I had not been that relaxed in so long. Our whole experience was great! I can go and on about our time there. I would highly recommend staying at Banana Azul!

Amazing luxury accommodations 👏 Impressive upscale lush surrounding. The rooms are very inviting, ample and with amenities. And it is soooo clean. Great view of the ocean. Everything is first class, from the visual to the towels, sheets, bed, shower. Everything works, which in Puerto Viejo is a miracle. I know, I have been here numerous trips. Close to downtown Puerto Viejo. The restaurant food is so delicious, we did not want to go any place else. The supermarket across the street has the same high standard with reasonable prices. One can order take out there of sandwiches. They have a cozy bar on the beach as well as lounge chairs and a massage tent. Great for a massage with the sound of the ocean and the ocean breeze. I highly recommend this Oasis. It is an incredible experience in Puerto Viejo 👏

If you want the jungle experience but like me don’t necessarily enjoy experiencing the elements and exposure to all kinds of critters, this is the way to do it. Hearing the rain pitter patter on the outside of the yurt was so soothing and relaxing. Having a pool right outside your door is amazing. Hearing the sounds of nature but under air conditioning is the best of both worlds. Maria and her colleague (sorry I don’t remember your name!) were so friendly, and awesome and even took time to get to know me. They are very responsive by what’s app and will do everything in their power to accommodate. Also having a super market within walking distance was the best!!!

The owner was great - friendly, helpful, entertaining. Villas are spacious, bathroom is in a great condition, pools have colourful lights at night, you are surrounded by the nature, there are several supermarkets and the beach within a walking distance of the property

We just spent 5 nights here and loved every minute there. Nice & quiet space, yet close to markets & beaches.

Best decision ever to stay there for a few nights. At first we were a little hesitant to book it because the house doesn’t have any walls. But we are so glad that we did it! It is a truly unique experience to be able to hear every sound of the jungle, day and night. Surprisingly we weren’t visited by too many critters. Just a huge grasshopper and a few smaller bugs. We didn’t see any spiders in the house. You can safely lock away any valuables in a safe in the house and in a big cupboard. The house has a beautiful open design and tasteful decoration. It has it’s own kitchen and a bathroom. It is easy to find. The property is not on a paved road. It was a little bumpy but not steep. We had a small 4x4 and had no problems to get there. Tine is a very very nice host. The jungle garden is great. We were able to see sloths, toucans, colibris, agutis and all other kind of wildlife from our porch. The only thing missing was a hammock to make it even more perfect. The last morning we ordered the breakfast (at extra cost). We loved to be able to enjoy it on the balcony, watching the animals in the garden. We would definitely stay there again!

EVERYTHING! It was a one of a kind experience! ..the place really is 'magical'...the attention to detail, open air kitchen, superb hosts, excellent decor and ofcourse...the setting! Right in the middle of the jungle..we saw toucans, armadillos, agoutis...barious birds, heard the howlers almost every day..missed the sloth though...absolutely loved the heliconia !!

It is a wonderful, lovely place. The houses are furnitured so beautiful and they are surrounded by rainforest. We saw the Agouti Agnes an Variolä Slots and could watch the Kolibris. It’s so peaceful. Also the surrounding villages and braches are beautiful.

We loved so much Casa Heliconia that from 3 booked nights we made it to 6. This amazing place stole completely our hearts and if we wont back will only mean that we just moved to the neighbourhood for good :)

The place is in the middle of a beautiful garden and jungle, it's quiet and clean. The shower is awesome

Location was secluded and peaceful but only 5 minutes from Cahuita. It was great.

The glamping ecolodge was very comfortable and ideal to rest during the day between explorations in Tortuguero. The private pool, terrace and shower are refreshing

We stayed in bungalow 6 which was set back in the jungle. We were thankful for the cold plunge pool after returning from our tours. We had a family of spider and a family of howler monkeys come right through our back area. Toucans too. The lunch and dinners were the best. Great taste profiles. Just delicious. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We stayed two nights and wish it were longer.

Loved it. Location was fabulous. Although you had to get a boat across to the town that was part of the fun. The accommodation, grounds and pool were lovely, the food was good (we ate in both days (which is very unusual for us) and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Great early morning wildlife boat trip with Antonio. Saw and learnt a lot. Big thumbs up and thank you to all the staff from us.

The deluxe glamping suite was more than we could ask for! With the pool, very private deck, mini bar, etc. the bathroom was big and all the finishings were beautiful!

Perfect getaway in puerto viejo fpr those who look for privacy and comfort . The vila is very large, so does the seating areas. And the private pool is a huge bonus!

This was our second time staying at Lomas del Caribe, and we’ll definitely be coming back! The combination of a private pool surrounded by lush jungle while being just minutes away from some of the most breathtaking beaches on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast is unbeatable. We traveled with my 94-year-old grandpa, and he loved the convenience of having a pool right outside without needing to walk far. The villa’s kitchen is fully equipped, making it easy to prepare meals, and the pool is cleaned daily, ensuring a pristine and refreshing experience. The peaceful atmosphere, the sound of monkeys in the trees, and the sight of parrots flying by made the stay even more magical. Lomas del Caribe truly offers the perfect balance of comfort and nature!

The villas are very well equipped to cook anything you like! You can tell the person in charge cares about maintenance and does a good job at it. The pool was cleaned everyday, I asked for more sheets and towels and they were provided right away. Communication was excellent and easy via Whatsapp. Highly recommended for a group of four or family with kids. Very private, you can hear the monkeys howling and all kinds of birds chirping. Close to all main beaches (Cocles, Puerto Viejo and my fave, Punta Uva).

A beautiful hidden away property at one with nature. No glass anywhere! The sound of the animals was just perfect. Only a short walk to a deserted beach. The plunge pool was an added bonus as was the hammock. The host is so accommodating and welcoming

Very peaceful and special place surrounded by nature and close to the beach. I really liked the design of the suite, it's bright, cosy and you can open the doors and will have great views into the jungle. It also comes with a great outdoor shower and a small private pool. Every detail is made with love. The owner is super friendly and prepared a delicious breakfast. I felt very welcome! I can recommend this place to everyone seeking a special accommodation in order to escape the busy town.

Beautiful, architect designed bungalow, with minimalist aesthetic. The bed was comfortable and plunge pool a welcome respite from the high humidity. We loved having the beautifully presented breakfast delivered to our terrace each morning. Breakfast was always nutritious, and delicious (but note this is a small establishment so breakfast comes as a surprise each day). If you are looking for an immersive jungle type experience this is the place for you, expect insects , jungle sounds; we loved the early morning howler monkey alarm call!! Lara, the owner is pleasant and responsive to deal with, even returning one evening to deliver a lighter so we could light the mosquito coils that were provided.

AIRE was absolute perfection. Surrounded by nature, it offered total peace. From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced by the serene surroundings. The accommodation was comfortable and beautifully designed. I loved immersing myself in nature, whether it was taking walks or simply relaxing on the pool. The hosts were incredibly hospitable. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a peaceful getaway in nature.

We came to celebrate my boyfriend birthday and it was the best choice we could take! This place is super special- quiet, magical, boutique, green wherever you look! The decoration is so beautiful and the vibe in this place it was just what we wished for. The girls are amazing! so lovely, welcoming and kind. Always with a smile! They have really been there for anything we asked for, I felt that they are thinking of everything that can makes us feel good and comfort. They totally think of all the small details. Thank you so much for everything, I wish I will get the chance to come again. You’re doing great!

The hotel is very modern and clean. My suite was very large and the surroundings are lovely. Staff is very friendly and the guard pointed me some animals hidden in the garden. Like a sloth having a nap in bar stool. Pool is nice but not for swimming. It's not deep enough. Lots of it is kids pool or ankle deep sitting water. Big pool all in all but for sitting, not swimming. Bring earplugs to sleep with because of the howler monkeys. They truly are loud and start at 5am. You hear them more at pool bungalows and can sometimes spot them far away. You can also see sloths at the River, I had better luck at evening spotting them drinking and climbing. There is a small store accross the street but for most things you need a car or a bike ride. The beach is few min walk away and is nice and rustic. Lot's of driftwood which is cool. The Instagram worthy palm tree beach is 10-15 min walk away on the other side of the hill with the sea cave. Definately worth checking out.

A great hotel just south of Puerto Viejo. Very good pool (with 2 large hot tubs). Direct accesss onto beautiful Caribbean beach. The restaurant was good although seemed quite quiet and therefore lacking some atmosphere- The only problem was that I had booked a ‘family bungalow’ by the pool thinking this would be great for a family of 4 with 2 teenage children, but these bungalows have 2 bedrooms with a single queen bed in each, and no flexibility to put in two single beds. I did ask why they don’t have single beds that could be pushed together if a double is required (which would surely give better flexibility for room combinations) but was told they have no singles and nothing that could be done. No idea what they do if you have 3 kids??? Only a minor problem and even the intense tropical rain didn’t stop an enjoyable few days.

I had an outstanding stay at The Bungalows Hotel! everything was amazing. The amenities are top-notch, and the staff from the manager to the receptionist to housekeeping—were all incredibly kind, supportive, and welcoming. The entire property was spotless and well-maintained, and the food was absolutely delicious. The hotel is very safe and secure, with convenient access to the beach. One of the highlights was definitely the jacuzzi pool, especially at night with the neon lights it was the perfect spot to relax and unwind. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return. A truly excellent experience all around!

Excellent property, it is fantastic… very clean… the room is big and very nice. I like walk inside the property during the night because it has fantastic views, also during the day. Nice swimming pools with two jacuzzi. The breakfast that I had included is fantastic. And the most is all the hotel team is fantastic, friendly and cordial. I will be in the same place when I return to the area

Du kan vaske tøj gratis i din bungalow. Perfekt sted at afslutte vores rejse på. Venligt personale. Vi kommer helt sikker gerne igen. Eneste meget lille minus - maden er ikke så god. Men der er masser af muligheder i området ellers.

The apartments were very spacious and clean. Everything you needed was provided for. Every morning you woke up to a fresh brewed coffeepot, which was already delivered to your doorsteps. The breakfast was amazingly delicious, with different fresh juices every day. Almost every morning our host Eric took the time to sit with us for a moment to chat and to give us tips for our daily trips. Every single person of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Within the compund we were able to see sloths, poison dart frogs, lizzards, iguanas and even a beautiful colored tucan paid us a visit while we were relaxing in the clean pool. Above the pool was a terrace, from which you could look at the stars, when it got dark. All in all, it was the perfect place with the perfect hosts. We will definately come back soon!

Our stay at Villas Piña was absolutely flawless. My husband is extremely picky when it comes to lodging and even he has zero complaints. For starters, Eric and Sharon are absolutely wonderful hosts. They are greatly versed in the area and can tell you anything you need to know about everything from wildlife, where to eat, to history. The support staff is absolutely delightful as well. The grounds are kept up impeccably and are a host to various wildlife. While on site we saw iguanas, collard aracari, and sloths. The pool is spotless and the gardens peaceful and inviting. The rooms were an absolute delight. Clean, comfortable, spacious and full of natural light. The staff delivers coffee, cream, and sugar to the porch in an insulated carafe each morning. A very special add on! Breakfast is included and is made to order each morning. The fruit is fresh and delightful and everything was delicious. Plus there is always fresh coffee available.

Great location between the two national parks in the area (Cahuita to the north and Vida Silvestre to the south, both highly recommended) and within a short walk of a beach that you will almost have to yourself via a private gate. Eric and Sharon are extremely friendly and effective hosts and have a great friendly staff. Breakfast is a highlight of that service, coffee at your doorstep in a thermos at 6:30am and a home cooked meal near the pool when you are ready. The Villas are very comfortable and has a nice mini-kitchen with fridge - you can cook meals if you need a break from restaurants - and very private. Nice private deck outside of room that looks into the garden. We were able to see Toucans and a sloth without moving an inch from our chairs. Away from the beach and other major things so very quiet outside of the animals you came here to hear.

The huge stunning beautifully maintained garden setting makes this boutique villa with only six suites such a memorable stay. In the gardens we saw a two toed sloth and a three toed sloth with a baby attached as well as a variety of birds including toucans as well as colourful frogs- such a treat. The pool without children was a lovely start to our mornings. Breakfast was delicious with multiple options every morning. The staff throughout the villa were gracious, helpful and friendly. We stayed for two weeks and enjoyed the close proximity to the beach and the jungle walks as well as nearby town and restaurants. Our kind host drove us to a huge supermarket for our supplies as the rooms include a well set up large kitchen. It was easy to catch an uber into town for those who didn’t want the long walk along the beach to get there

The property and hosts are fabulous. The room was clean, comfy, with everything you need from a range of bath towels, to kitchen utensils, to a perfectly hot shower. The balcony space was great and we were very fortunate to have a sloth in the tree in front of our villa for our two night stay! The hosts were fantastic and made us feel very welcomed. Breakfast was lovely and having hot water for a morning cuppa was a nice touch. The pool is clean and a range of beach towels, sun cream etc. is available. The property is very close to the beach, a small minimart, and bar/restaurants. A short drive out of the villa is a small town with a range of shops, restaurants and bars. Car parking was secure. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend!

I loved everything about this property it is absolutely stunning. The staff was beyond beyond beyond beautiful and amazing. The food at the restaurant was great and very reasonable prices. The beds & pillows were comfortable and the maid did an excellent job cleaning every single day (which if you have stayed on the Caribbean side you understand how both of those are rare). It was just a few steps to a very secluded & mostly private beach. Kayaks, boats and paddle boards a short stroll down the beach. I got sick the last day and was pretty irritable and was fussing about parking (it was a holiday weekend) and the two hotel employees never lost their smiles and helpful attitude. One even drove the car for me to get it in a better position. Honestly it was just too sweet how they handled my cranky attitude, and it made my mood improve despite my blistering headache. Later on I left a tip for the two amazing guys who helped me and later found the one who parked the car was actually the owner of the hotel and gave the tip to his staff. I am putting this in the review because first of all what a sweet and beautiful human he was. So calm and helpful despite my slightly testy demeanor. Anyone who owns a hotel and behaves like that creates an energy and frequency of love in the space. He is a genuine thoughtful great person and he has created a beautiful space with thoughtful great details. 1000% recommend this epic space.

Loved everything about our stay here. Upon arrival, made to feel super special and the hotel location is so spectacular, getting the best of both worlds in the jungle & on the beach. We spotted so much wildlife here, sloths every day, green parrots, toucans & howler monkeys to name a few! Room is finished to a beautiful standard, quite modern but still in keeping with its surroundings. We stayed in one of the rooms in the main hotel building and didn’t have the problem mentioned by some other guests with no bathroom door. The toilet & shower are still separate, it’s just the sink that is in the bedroom itself, which didn’t bother us. Food is a little on the expensive side, but so worth it. We had the 3 course dinner down on the beach twice and the standard was the same both times. Special mention to our waiter Ricardo who did a fantastic job with his excellent service. Also, special mention to Dinnier who served us at breakfast on a couple of occasions and Walter who helped us spot lots of amazing wildlife! The staff here are incredible and do make an extra special effort to learn your names and make you feel so at home.

Had an incredible time at Awa! Such a great location in the middle of nature and right by some beautiful beaches. The property was clean, the food was great, the rooms were excellent, and the staff were so kind. We really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and liked the variety that it offered. The coffee was some of the best I’ve ever had. We also enjoyed the hotel restaurant for lunch and dinner, but also ate at some incredible restaurants nearby including El Refugio (recommended to us by hotel staff), Selvin, and Zaika. The staff was incredible and so attentive to our every needs. They gave us some incredible recommendations and helped booked activities including a Cahuita hike and transport to the airport. The beaches nearby were beautiful and some of the best in the area. I look forward to returning to Awa the next time we come to Costa Rica!

The hotel grounds are absolutely stunning, nestled in an abundant lush jungle with cute critters, monkeys, sloths, hummingbirds, and birds. We stayed in the "Americana" room, which was towards the back of the property and away from other rooms. Overall, the room was very comfortable with beautiful décor. The room comes with a way to make coffee with fresh grounds, which is the best I've had in a hotel room or Airbnb. The breakfast that's included with the stay is delicious. The staff is beyond friendly. Special thanks to Moises for helping us spot the sloths! We loved being right on the beach to read and relax.

I am so happy to spend one night at this beautiful hotel! The hostess are so friendly like long time no see relatives. Beautiful breakfast was a big surprise for me. I had a hard time to choose which coffee I would take. Definitely will recommend and I will come back again. You will have a good chance to see a sloth up close inside this 3 hectares property.

This was our First Glamping experience and Colina Secreta met our expectations. Great spacious cabin with amenities. The wildlife didn't disappoint. A bit of a trekk to get to the cabin if you have mobility issues but we liked being at the hill to enjoy the scenery. Staff was very helpful and responsive to any inquiries. The location is close to a ton of restaurants optins and shops.

Endroit fantastique au coeur de la forêt du Costa rica. Le premier jour nous avons été réveillé par une famille de singe qui prenait son petit déjeuner devant notre terrasse. Nous avons aussi eu la visite de magnifiques toucans. Le cadre est vraiment extraordinaire. Les chambres/tentes sont très belles et décorées avec goût. le petit déjeuner est au top, bref que des superlatifs pour cet endroit magique.

Accueil très sympa du propriétaire. Bon petit déjeuner fait maison ! L’endroit est perdu dans la jungle et la tente ouverte dans les arbres permet de voir des animaux ! I've traveled extensively and this was one of the most unique experiences ever. We glamped and truly felt like we were sleeping in the jungle. I'll take with me the incredible experience of waking up to howler monkeys and birds! This family-run business leaves no detail unattended.

This is the most relaxing, quaint and serene location. The staff are all so welcoming. Room 12 is highly recommend with the pool access

Cool, modern, extremely comfortable and immaculately clean room . Everything works and the Air Con is perfect for a good night sleep. The room is well furnished in a modern style containing everything you could possibly require, including hair dryer. Large french doors lead out to a private sitting area several steps from the pool with views of the jungle beyond. From the pool you can see sloths, eagles and multicoloured bird life. The hotel is quiet and secure at night although the centre of town with restaurants and bars are only a short walk away. The hotel is well run and the staff are friendly, efficient and go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Gonzalo the owner is an excellent source of information as well as a genuinely nice guy. He even helped us with getting to our next destination. I don't generally write reviews but this hotel is a bit special and I highly recommend it for a visit to Puerto Viejo.

Everything. The location was perfect. Really quiet down a small road but only a few minutes walk into the centre and all the restaurants. Felt very safe area and the room was quiet and really big. It was lovely to have the pool to dip into. We were room 12 which had no one walking past and could step right into the pool from it. Thought it was excellent value for money.

This hotel was so cute, nested in the Jungle. Great views from your room window. Please note that not all rooms (actually only 2) have pool view. The rest is nested more in the jungle with jungle view. The pool is small. Location is perfect, near everything, yet quiet enough and far enough from the bustling centre of the town. Staff was super super nice and friendly!

Great staff, Gonzalo is super helpful with anything you may need, it was nice to get to know him and a bit about his story of why he moved to Costa Rica, thank you for the free beers when we were in the pool! Rooms are spacious and clean and the pool is lovely. Good location, short walk into town. Highly recommend.

Our whole stay felt surreal. The Hotel is located in a forest area right next to the main road, but you feel like you are on island by yourself. The surrounding area is filled by the echoes of birds, monkeys and beautiful nature. The beach is just 5 min walking distance from the Hotel and you get the feeling the beach is just yours, we went to swim everyday and there were just a handful of people on the beach. The hotel it self has a open restaurant with the pool view, we had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and it was really good. The pool is also amazing and clean. The room is fairly sized, cleaned everyday and modern with good WIFI. The staff was really helpful and polite. One of the best stays we ever had :)

This resort checked all the possible boxes. It is perfect because you are in small boutique resort near the ocean. They have given you all that you need; relaxing pool/patio/restaurant area. If you want to book a tour, the staff is right on it. If you need a relaxing drink by the pool, on it. A car might be good as the main road is busy and harder to walk - but doable.

Beautiful hotel very close to the beach. All rooms are small units with a terrace, assembled around the pool in an amazing environment full of fauna and flora. Good breakfast, comfortable beds and nice pool. Friendly and helpful staff made an extraordinary vacation experience. Mucho gusto!

This is paradise! The hotel is located in the jungle between the main road and the beach and nature is all around. Monkeys, birds, everything is around! The hotel itself is very beautiful! The rooms are around the pool next to the reception and the bar/restaurant. A short walk to the beach(3 minutes) and to town(15 minutes via the beach or 20 minutes via the road). It’s a very dark walk at night, but it’s safe and the restaurants in town have great food and they are cheap. The restaurant at the hotel offers great breakfasts, lunch and dinner(yes, it’s quite expensive and they add tax and service to the price, but the food is great! Not only pizzas as some say) The cocktails are great as well! The personal is wonderful, sweet and very helpful!! You feel like a king or queen! Fabrizio, Manfred, Christian, and all the others, thank you for a wonderful stay!

Magical place amongst the trees and only a very short wander to the beach. Monkeys swinging during the daytime and frogs only a quick search away at night. It’s a small hotel with most rooms looking out at the pool area. Relatively thin walls but we didn’t mind waking up early on this trip. 2 or 3 nights would perfect if visiting without a car as taxis need to come from Puerto Viejo for trips further afield. Almost faultless however our only criticism would be that dietary requirements actively requested by the hotel were not reflected at the restaurant/fore breakfast. We loved the shrimp tacos and the plantain tacos. They don’t shout about the beach at this property but they do allow you to visit their sister property Awa so that you can enjoy a day out at Punta Uva.

Lovely hotel, rooms really nice and well appointed. Not much storage space. Staff pretty average, not particularly interested. Pool is basically a plunge pool and nothing more. It was too full so skimmers weren't working properly and the sump cover wasn't even attached which is poor Health & Safety. We loved Puerto Viejo most out of our entire stay in Costa Rica. Honestly, if we went again not sure we would go for somewhere with a pool as the beach is so close and so nice. Costa Rica for us was not a chill by the pool kind of holiday but rather a go explore!!

My wife and I recently spent the first part of our 20th Anniversary celebration trip to Costa Rica at Umami in Puerto Viejo. It was an amazing boutique hotel, very tasteful in the decorations and thoughtfully they offered us a bottle of sparkling wine. We spent 4 nights there. The garden and the pool are amazing. The only “small” issue, is the limited breakfast offer, there were three options, delicious, but we stayed 4 nights and is was very “tiring” same fruits everyday and sort of same plate. The staff was very kind and gave us great tips on restaurants and things to do. The pool, was very pleasant, so much that we spent 3 hours in the pool and make some friends there. We visited other hotels, but in Porto Viejo, I believe Umami is the best.

Stayed 2 nights at Umami as it was the only hotel in Puerto Viejo close to our style. There are yet not that many hotels around with a modern and nice touch. It`s 3 blocks away from the main street and an easy walk also during nights as there are also some restaurants along the way. Rooms are modern but a bit dark as all face the pool, hence there are no windows on the back side of the rooms, at least ours which was on ground floor. The pool is quite nice even though pretty small and does look bigger on pictures ;). Nevertheless, not a big deal, though. Rooms lacked a tiny bit of cleanliness which I was able to remove with a wipe - would have expected this to be done by the staff but also here not a big deal. Highlight is for sure breakfast which is a la carte. You can choose from 3 different style of breakfast. Unfortunately we ordered the vegetarian one on our last day and regretted not having done so from the beginning as it was really tasty. Cereals which are offered are more ordinary cornflakes than cereals so keep that in mind. Definitely worth staying there if you fancy a little nice modern place.

The set-up of this small hotel is very nice: 15 rooms and suites around a small pool in a beautiful garden. The surroundings are safe but might feel a bit strange to Europeans or Americans as the streets are unpaved and the neighborhood looks more like favela than a five star hotel environment. We would have loved more variety for the breakfast. The shy manager could communicate more with his guests. Other than that we really liked the hotel especially our small balcony overlooking the pool.

The hotel was nice but much smaller than the pictures show. The premier garden suite was nice but the shower is too small and gets water all over the floor, the tub sits right in front of the balcony door so it was hard to get around it. Breakfast was good, drinks by the pool was nice and not over priced. The pool is very small. The staff was friendly. Location is a bit sketchy.

Nice apartment with plenty of room. AC worked well. Main Bathroom was spacious. Pool area was beautiful and the pool was very comfortable temperature.

Beautiful property, well manicured landscaping with yellow butterflies flying about the flowers around the pool. My room was at the back of the property facing the mountains. When I turned on my bathroom light a howler monkey would make their deep guttural sound which I thought was pretty cool. My last day there I was able to spot the howler monkeys playing in the trees. The staff was very kind, attentive and helpful. I plan to return with my family since it is also a great place for families and in perfect proximity to Playa Cocles.

The hotel is a wonderful space. A small number of beautifully built cabins surrounding a really nice pool. The property is surrounded by jungle and we saw so much wildlife each morning from our balcony. A 5 min walk down the road to Cocles beach. Our 3yr & 6yr children were fine doing the short walk each day. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast on your balcony each morning is a lovely touch. We were sad to leave.

everything! perfect location, staff were lovely especially Diego. They were very accommodating of us as we were travelling with small children and had issues with our flights. The pool was lovely, the apartment was lovely. Wow definitely visit again.

How close it was to everything but secluded at the same time. Love how all the homes face the pool area as well. Staffs we 10/10
