Amazing Stay – Just Like a Tropical Paradise! 🌴 Despite some mixed reviews we saw earlier, our experience at this hotel was fantastic! ✨ The territory is stunning – just like in a tropical resort or an oasis. Everything is beautifully maintained, with palm trees, pools, and lush greenery all around. It really feels like you're in a postcard! 🏨 Our room was excellent – spacious, clean, and with a lovely view of the pool surrounded by palm trees. 🙌 The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. 🍽️ Food and drinks were totally fine – we especially enjoyed the breakfast (and even had live piano music in the mornings 🎹!). 🎂 They surprised us with a little cake and bubbly on a birthday – such a thoughtful touch! 🪑 There are several restaurants: one à la carte, and one with buffet options. We liked the à la carte one better – you can sit outside on the terrace with no buffet crowds. 💆‍♀️ We didn’t try the SPA, but everything else was great. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend AP Lago Montargil Conference & Spa for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting. P.S. I believe complaints usually start in high season when it gets too busy – the staff seemed to manage well during our stay in mid-June.

Amazing breakfast and buffet, great variety. Incredible pools and spa. The adults only pool is a big bonus. Fun activities by the lake. The staff is super nice, our room was comfy, we really enjoyed our stay and definitely coming back.

Beautiful new room with a balcony overlooking the lake. Loved the different pools & great only adults one. Transport to Marina if required. The staff were very helpful & friendly. Especially the waiting staff down the Marina restaurant & Nelio on reception who made us feel very special. Lovely spa

We loved our stay in the Casas da Murta. The house was a little outside town and so quiet. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a coffee machine and pods. The fresh bread delivered every morning was a lovely bonus. While it was too cold for a swim, my daughters enjoyed dipping their feet in the pool while I enjoyed a tea on the verandah. Beds were very comfortable. Overall we had a great stay and hope to visit again in the future.

We’ve been going to Casas da Estação almost every year. We keep coming back. The property is beautiful, the staff is amazing and Beirã is just perfect.

Gorgeous, contemporary villa with stunning views. Extremely private, but short walk to village with a supermarket, coffee shops and a couple of restaurants. Short drive to more restaurants, but we were happy to cook in/walk into village. Very clean upon arrival and warm and friendly hosts. Huge, comfortable bed with the most amazing view - we left curtains open to see starry sky and blue moon at night and wonderful sunrise! Plenty of kitchen/dining equipment to cook in. Lovely pool to cool off in the extremely hot weather! Jacuzzi was great, but we only used a couple of times, as weather too hot! Would recommend to everyone, as idyllic!

The hosts are amazing, super friendly and welcoming. The house is stunning! The views are stunning! Very comfortable and well equipped. The pool was great specially on a 36 degree weather. I loved everything about this little oásis. Baby/child friendly, which we appreciated a lot. We recommend it to everyone.

Check-in/out with Sonia was easy and she was very welcoming. We really appreciated her kind gifts of bread, chorizo, jams and red wine - all of which were delicious. It is a lovely house with everything you need to self-cater. It has a fabulous outdoor area with lots of seating, a swimming pool with loungers and a BBQ. The location is very scenic and ideal to visit Marväo and Castelo de Vide. We would have loved to have stayed longer.

Excellent location in a tiny rural community- very quiet. Beautiful views in the area. So many interesting walks in the area, including options to walk directly from the property. Outdoor area lovely with opportunities to sit in the sunshine/ shade all day long. Clean with everything listed working well.

We loved the rural tranquillity of this peaceful little village. The house is clean and spacious, with everything we needed in the kitchen. The bed was very comfortable too. The garden is nicely laid out with plenty of seating to take advantage of sun throughout the day. It's an ideal location for exploring the countryside and visiting Marvao and Castelo de Vide.

Absolutely perfect! The house is so beautiful and comfortable! The front of the house is all in glass, with a breathtaking panoramic view! I's so cosy and all the details made us felt so welcomed. Every bedroom had its own bath, the beds were super comfortable. You have stunning views from every room. There was a lot of space. Outside, the house has an amazing private terrace, so comfortable to relax and enjoy the view! The sense of peace we feel there is unique. Irene is an excellent hostess and made us feel so welcome! We loved everything and we want to come back!

Nothing but the sounds of sheep bells, birds, and trickling water made for the most peaceful stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights last august, and it was a really more than wonderful experience. The location is close to Elvas, but tranquility is all around with the immaculate gardens and grounds all around. Gardens and pool are extremely well kept, and a lush for all scents. Everywhere beautiful tropical trees,flowers ,and awesome lavender plants. The whole place is a real oasis in the Alentejo. Breakfast was perfect, served on the amazing terras, so was lunch and diner. Everything fresh and tasty, compliments for the cook Bia, we loved her kitchen very much. The owners Joachim and Maria are real fine discreet and friendly hosts. We felt here really at home, and we did not like to leave after 3 nights. The only minus was that it was august high season holidays, so sometimes the noise of spoiled constantly screaming children disturbed the pastoral peace and beauty of the place. But far away from the poolside we find even more beautiful places to relax. Overal we can recommend the place very much. And we will visit Monte de Provenca again. The property is beautiful in a lovely quiet setting. Great gardens around the pool, and nice outdoor eating areas with views. The pool was large, well kept and benefitted from several covered relaxing areas nearby. The hosts were friendly, caring and low key, it has a great balance of informality but with high standards. Fabulous food, for breakfast lunch or dinner if you wanted it. Elvas is only ten minutes away with a variety of places to eat if you can pull yourself away from Bia’s cooking! A daily special for dinner adds another layer to what is a nice menu anyway we had the duck breast with a orange and honey sauce…..delicious. Our room was large, well equipped, and a very spacious bathroom. The indoor lounge and dining room were delightful too. We will be back.

We have stayed for two nights at the Rural Hotel “Monte da Provença”. This hotel is located in a rural area surrounded by olive at trees, and this from a good distance of the main road. The hotel is beautiful, very clean and above all well maintained. The owners are very friendly and personable and we can say the same for the staff. The room was large, very neat and equipped with a large bathroom, the wifi reception from an excellent quality. The breakfast buffet is normal, and the standards of the “Covid19” are also well observed. The Hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool and a very beautiful and well-kept garden. One evening we also enjoyed the restaurante, very good cuisine. There is nothing to criticize, and we will certainly come back to this oasis of peace and tranquility.

Frankly our stay was as near perfect as a trip can be. Our high expectations were exceeded. From first contact to check out...top marks for professionalism, kindness and hospitality. The hotel, pool and grounds are absolutely beautiful and very spacious. Hosts and staff truly go that extra mile...24/7. Thank you. Housekeeping, restaurant, maintenance....simply perfect. Exceptional standards. Exceptional value. If you do manage to tear yourself away from this lovely place there´s so much to see and do that you could easily spend a couple of weeks enjoying a quiet holiday. The suites are just what we were looking for....the well equipped kitchen allows a good mix of self-catering or restaurant dining and we enjoy the extra space. Good parking (covered). Good heating. I´m sure we´ll be back very soon.

We love staying here as it is so tranquil. Breakfast is good. You can ask for all kind of eggs and bacon. Delicious bread. The rooms are luxurious and spotless. We had a small suite this time which was a special treat. Wander around the grounds. Go for a swim. The pool is shallow so ideal for nervous swimmers like me. The food is good and they will accommodate special requests. You can have lunch from 2 pm which suits us as we like to eat early in the day and not in the evening.

The El Rei Dom Manuel Hotel will stand out in my memory for many years to come. Sometimes photos can not do justice in conveying the feeling of a place. I feel that's the case with this hotel. Our room was better than anticipated, with double doors and a balcony overlooking the town and castle, and another large door overlooking the vast, beautiful surrounding countryside. The charm is in the old world, traditional furnishing style of the hotel, and friendliness of the staff. The room is cozy, with soft lighting, which in this surrounding, I found to be perfect. The bedding was very comfortable, and the welcome port in the room was much appreciated upon arrival, after driving in the rain for hours. The owner was kind, helpful, and clearly takes pride in the hotel. The El Rei Dom Manuel is immaculately clean! Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful, with attentive service. Breakfast suited our needs perfectly, and served delicious crepes, which we had not been offered anywhere else that we stayed. The location is perfect, with parking available, a short walk around town, and a visit to the castle. Thank you for a lovely and memorable stay.

This hotel and the hill top village is a fabulous place. The views are breathtaking. The Hotel El Rei Dom Manuel is the most friendly and hospitable place I have visited on my 4 week tour. The drive into this historical, ancient village sets the scene, wing mirrors folded and deep breaths in to squeeze the car through the cobbled streets. Reception is a friendly & welcoming place before you get to your comfortable, homely room where you will open the window shutters and go "Wow!" The hotel restaurant has a good selection of menu choices. The food prep and presentation is superb. The cost of a 3 course meal, with wine and coffee for two people was equivalent to £50. The small village, its castle, and this hotel all combine to make the most memorable, peaceful, satisfying break from everyday life you could hope for. Try it before the rest of the world finds it.

We enjoyed our stay here from check in to check out. We had a wonderful room with mountain view. The English-speaking receptionist kindly checked the time of sunrise for a stunning vista to remember. The hotel is in an excellent location within the walls of Marvao with guest parking at the door Our room was small but very comfortable with BBC world news the first in nearly 6 weeks. Excellent show with abundant hot water. A lift helped with luggage. Breakfast was very freshly prepared delicious fruit, cereals, breads and croissants, scrambled eggs, cheese, meats, jams more than anyone could eat with good coffee. From here we walked from end to end of Marvao and loved every minute. Thank you to our host and his lovely receptionist.

We really enjoyed our stay at this charming family run hotel during a cycle tour. The superb location and it’s surroundings enabled us to get a good feel for this gem of a place - spectacular views as a result of it’s prime position and proximity to the heart of the fascinating historic centre. The hotel is exceptionally well organised but welcoming nonetheless, and the interior is attractively laid out and colourfully furnished. Our room was spacious, well equipped and had a feeling of warmth and comfort. Dinner and breakfast were good quality and service was attentive, personable and professional. What a pity we only had one night, lovely hotel.

Amazing location, located within the historic fortress-city of Marvão and yet easy to reach by car (it is located on the first square immediately after entering the city gates, with ample parking, so you don't have to navigate the narrow winding streets). The room has a beautiful panorama over the valley (looking northeast, across the Spanish border), as well as a stunning view of the castle from the balcony (looking northwest). The staff is very kind and attentive; even though it was very quiet at the hotel (it seemed I was the only guest), they still served me an extensive breakfast.

This was one of our favorite stops on our 10 day trip through Portugal. From the moment we turned a corner in the approaching road and first saw Marvao high up on the hilltop, the experience was magical. The town is compact, clean, and efficient. Dom Dinis has parking available onsite. The check-in was efficient. The room was clean and well outfitted with patio, claw-foot tub and a unbelievable view, a tremendous value for the price. On top of all that, the castle and gardens with panoramic views across the hills and valleys near the border with Spain was simply breathtaking. The breakfast was minimalistic, but adequate, hard boiled eggs, pastries, cold cuts, espresso, enough to get you going in the morning, not enough to write home about. I wish we had booked another day at this lovely hotel in this gorgeous village.

What a highlight of our Portugal visit. Experiencing this medieval village high on the mountain top takes you back in time. The accommodations were superb. We were right next to the castle and across the small roadway from a good cafe. Breakfast was filling and nutritious. Such good bread! It is true, the steps to the rooms are a bit of a challenge. We did not want to lug our suitcases up the stone stairs so we quickly put what we needed into a small bag and that worked. One last piece of advice, when you enter the staggered gates to the walled area, stay to the left, as the road is less challenging. Thank you to the owners for making our stay so pleasant.

Wowza! Do you want a unique location? Your own little hilltop (really high hilltop!) town to investigate? Your own fort, about 100 m away to wander through and explore? A sensational 360 degree view for miles and miles from the wall of the town. Then don’t stay here. Kidding!!!!!!Yes. Stay here!!! What a place! Loved it. From the drive through town, with streets so narrow that there are literally only inches between the side mirrors and the buildings, to the jaw dropping views from our room over the expanse. Lovely staff and great breakfast. An informal café/bar restaurant (with super friendly family running it) right across the street, or fancier dining a short walk away. A unique experience. Highly recommend.

The location of Dom Dinis is the best in Marvao right below the amazing castle, which makes it easy to explore, and across the street from the small bar and ice cream cafe with outdoor tables and a fun parrot. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome during our stay. The drive up to the top of Marvao is narrow so you need a smaller car, but once you arrive there is free parking nearby. The Family Room is actually two separate bedrooms with two bathrooms connected by a hallway. Great breakfast was included in the morning.

Wow, what an incredible location: our room looked over the village walls to the valley way below. It's an amazing place. We were there in December, the room was cozy warm. Such a small village that pretty much anywhere is easily walked, but Dom Dinis is at the castle end has to be as good as it can be. The church just down the street is mentioned in Saramago's book, and worth every penny of the admission. Just a sweet town, and a great place to stay.

Beautiful old building, with cloisters and garden. The staff on the front desk were friendly and welcoming. Our room was large and comfortable, although a little dark as the one window was quite small for the room. We didn’t use the spa and the outside pool was closed due to poor weather. Be aware that swimming hats are required in the pool. Breakfast was good but it was quite busy - we think there was a conference group, or something similar, staying at the hotel. It’s possible to request a kettle or coffee machine to use in the room. That’s a nice touch but we were taken aback at checkout to be charged €1 for each coffee pod. In a room costing €200+ per night you’d think they could throw in a couple of complementary coffee pods with the machine.

Brilliant staff. All extremely friendly and great English. Spa was great, husband and I both had a lovely massage. Indoor pool was a huge bonus and heated to a very nice temp. Welcoming and supportive of us bringing young baby with us. Very clean throughout. Lovely kids area and kids pool including 2 small slides. Buffet breakfast was great, can order omelettes, fried eggs and pancakes to be made on the spot. A La Carte food was very good but small portions. Bar menu good and nice cocktails.

The hotel is in the upper, old part of Elvas and is a huge, gorgeous former convent building. The rooms are huge and bring the high standards of the Vila Gale chain. But the real highlight is just walking around the hotel, including the pool area and the main cloister garth. There is a fantastic bar in the hotel and drinks can be enjoyed in the courtyard or the cloister corridors. Breakfast was a super lavish buffet featuring the area’s signature Alentejo bread. On a return visit would love to try their award winning chef dinner dishes. A one-night stay here in September was also very reasonably priced and Elvas is a wonderful UNESCO city worth everyone’s bucket list.

Interesting building - a 17th C nunnery that later was used as a military base and is now a really excellent hotel. Our bedroom was large, quiet and with comfy bed. The heated indoor pool - part of a gym and spa complex- was much enjoyed! The hotel is inside the old town, just a short walk from the castle and for us as Brits the English cemetery was a fascinating insight to the 1811/12 battles led by Wellington. We loved Elvas!

Beautiful old convent with lovely open central courtyard. We were shown round the hotel on arrival with an explanation as to the buildings history. The breakfast was superb and dinner was excellent. The leisure facilities were excellent with indoor and outdoor pools, a jacuzzi, steam room and a gym. Spa treatments are also available at extra cost.

The hotel’s environment is peaceful and there are a lot of options in terms of activities —truly an experience. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Irina at the restaurant, who made us feel very welcome. Pools were excellent, breakfast was good, and being able to grab a quick snack by the pool was a big plus.

Yet another Pousada that has been thoughtfully modernised and tastefully fused modern themes and facilities with the original fabric of the buildings. We did not make use of the spa on this occasion but both these and the outdoor pool area were excellent. The restaurant and service was first rate. A good menu selection offering local specialities is available as is a comprehensive list of Portuguese wines. Both are reasonably priced. Although the Pousada has lifts access to most areas access to the Pousada itself and pool area could be difficult for those who are disabled as there arte steps and staircases that need to be negotiated. More ramps need to be provided - where possible. We noticed one or two guests struggling with is aspect of access and mobility. Otherwise our overall experience was excellent and we definitely recommend this Pousada to others.

what a great pousada in central Portugal. makes a great stop if traveling from the north to the Algarve. i certainly wish that time allowed a longer stay. the village is quite small and the hotel is surrounded by farm land. the building was originally a monastery in the 1400's. it is a national monument. stone walls, high ceilings, and very atmospheric. property includes a small museum & panels with building history. staff at check in was so welcoming. the desk man insisted on carrying our bags not only into the hotel, but to our room on the second floor. miraculously there is an elevator. the hotel feels huge due to the many lounging areas for guests and the maze of passages. lovingly cared for grounds and a pool prefect for relaxing. furnishings are modern. also a spa we did not visit. our room was a superior historic room with a canopied double bed, two chairs, and a desk. the bath was quite large with double sink marble counter and large shower. nice amenities including, robe, slippers, and lotion. large dining room for dinner and a well done breakfast spread. our dinner was hit and miss as most dishes had some type of issue we disliked-overcooked pasta and shrimp, soggy & barely warm tempura beans, etc. if you need it wi-fi was strong. very quiet at night and outdoor lighting creates a beautiful atmosphere. but if you prefer to sleep in, be prepared for the roosters, etc. to wake you early. we feel lucky to have found such a splendid place and highly recommend it.

This place is amazing. It's a small town and kind of isolated, but the Pousada is the real draw. It's a fantastic building and staying in it was a highlight of our trip. The staff were all extremely polite and helpful. They have parking right in front - it's even covered. Our room had a very authentic feel but with modern amenities. The WiFi was great and the shower was fine as well. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel and really enjoyed both. We also utilized the jacuzzi in the spa and that was fun. The pool was chilly so we didn't dive in. All of the areas have a great feel to them, especially at night when everything is lit up. The TV had lots of channels, many in English as well. The only thing keeping this place from being perfect was the bed - it was a rock! I know it's a matter of preference, but if you're from the US and used to pillow top mattresses or memory foam, it's going to hurt.

A nights stay in a genuine castle, what an experience. We stayed in the old part & were thoroughly enchanted with our room. We might have been disappointed though if we had ended up in the modern extension. Pool was excellent, although the spa was small & there was no gym. There was a 3 euro fee each to see the church part of the castle, a little niggle there. Good parking, friendly & attentive staff & great cuisine. Every bit as good as the Paradors in Spain.

Modern Pousada based on 14th Century Monastery.Rooms in new wing are large with a balcony . Excellent breakfast though the food in the restaurant in the evening was only average . Public rooms are part of the old building and are wonderful. The monastery church is amazing! Easy to find, free parking, short drive to Portalegre and Marvão. Staff were very good and all spoke good English. The pool looks lovely but we stayed in November!

Fomos recebidos com imensa simpatia e profissionalismo. O quarto era espaçoso, bem decorado, limpo e a cama era confortável. Apreciei bastante a preocupação que tem com a sustentabilidade em todo o hotel e com a disponibilização de um termos elétrico e pacotes de chá no quarto. Só falta também disponibilizarem água. Quanto ao pequeno almoço era agradável e variado. No entanto, tinha demasiado fritos e bolos, em vez de mais variedade de pão.

Comfortable hotel in the center of Portalegre. Very warm and hospitable staff. They really make you feel at home, and go the extra mile to cater for all your needs! We got a big and cozy room, and really enjoyed the small balcony. Breakfast is good, with a nice selection of local pastries.

We had a wonderful two-night stay at the hotel in December 2024. The room was spacious and comfortable, with excellent Wi-Fi connections. We appreciated the coffee/tea station in the room. A wonderful full breakfast with many options was included in the price. Would recommend this hotel to travelers in Alegré.

We booked a place to stay that it was horrible! Then, we were lucky to find this hotel, Jose Régio in Portalegre. A great place to stay! The staff was super friendly and helpful (we got a flat tire and do not speak Portuguese!) The place is very clean and comfortable.

Fantastic hotel right in the centre of Portalegre. The staff were very helpful, the room was great and the breakfast was excellent. The neighbourhood is quaint with lovely old cobbled streets with good shops, interesting buildings and good restaurants. Easy access to the local national park.

I had a great time in Rossio Hotel, location, facilities and services are great and people are very warm, friendly and helpful! I enjoyed very much my stay there and I'd love to go again!

The hotel is right next to the Rossio square, 7 minutes by foot from the bus station and 8-10 minutes to the main cathedral. The breakfast was exquisite!

All of the staff were very attentive, polite and eager to please. the breakfast was very good and we were served at our table in a very professional manner.

After ride 700 km on motorcycle from Santander to Alter, when arriving in Convento d'Alter the reception can't be better. Nuno Quina in the reception, a great and friendly professional don't want let me carry my bags to my room, after give me a guided visit In the hotel I be very impressed. They prep me some snacks in the bar, what is really good after 700km in temperatures around 35°C. In the evening the barman José Castelinho, very friendly and professional give advice about the best restaurants around. Amazing environment in the hotel the stuff have very high standards with the costumers. Better is impossible. The conditions of my room, swimming pool, private parking are stunning. Definitely I recommend this place without hesitation. Great time I had in my two weeks in the hotel.

The old convent has been beautifully restored with love for its history. Excellent breakfast, evening meal around the corner. Swimming pool with view over the old castle! People extremely kind and helpful.

Good location in the middle of Marvão. Great breakfast with an amazing view. Room was a good size and very comfortable, also with Delta coffee. The seating areas near the reception were well set up also with a log fire giving a really nice space to sit and read for a few hours. Staff were attentive asking if we needed anything, friendly welcome on arrival. Just to help some others, there is a huge parking area on the entrance to the village outside the walls which was free, at least in winted. It was less than 5 minutes to walk to the hotel without driving through the narrow streets.

Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Hotel is located on the top of a hill with fantastic views. Parking is ok, with a short walk to the front of the hotel. There are narrow streets, uneven cobbles and steps which is the character of the town. Rooms were clean and tidy, very quiet. Restaurant staff were engaging, food was great and served well. You need to book early as it gets busy all year round.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The concierge went out in the rain to help me bring bags in while my husband dealt with parking on narrow alleys. She also made a reservation for an alternate place to eat since the restaurant on site was fully booked. And she gave my kids little Easter egg chocolates at check in! 🥚🐰💙

This may have been one of the most special places I have ever stayed. The welcome, information and help Luiz provided was outstanding, and so warm and genuine. The town is absoutely unique and the location of the Pousada simply stunning. I cannot imagine anyone not loving it as I did!

Katharina at the reception desk was very welcoming and helpful. The pool was refreshing and the area nice and warm in the afternoon sun. Breakfast self-service had many choices hot and cold, including variety of coffees from the machine. The location was great, plenty of parking, an easy walk to the main square and castle.

Really good value for money. Easy parking and not far to walk to the centre. Nice view from the room. The swimming pool is small but didn't get overcrowded. Very good breakfast.

Nice location on the edge of town with easy parking and views. Comfortable room. There's nice outdoor pool, although the weather was too cold to give it a try.
